Home Renovations

Where do we start with the renovation undertaken to get Avalon Blue @ Derby into its current state have been massive. We feel the photo montage will best describe the transformation!

3 Minutes to the trail head

The trail hub for the beautiful Blue Derby MTB trails is 500 metres away, simply ride down Bruce Street, turn right and ride through the Derby township to get there. Trail Maps are available inside the house. Bike wash facilities are located behind Crank it Café, in the township.

Lock Up Bike Shed

Out the back is a new purpose built bike storage and maintenance shed. Bikes can be maintained with the selection of tools provided. A wheel truing jig is provided in case your wheels suffer the consequences of a bad jump… this area is accessible both from the rear deck and outside the house. We ask that no bikes are taken into the house please.

Cosy fire pit

Out the front is a purpose built cement fire pit and relaxation area to enjoy the afternoon sun. Wood is provided, please enjoy but please also be respectful of our lovely neighbours.

Heat Pump and wood heater

Stay warm. Tasmania is renowned for having four seasons in one day and our visitors from the north island may require some extra warmth!

TV, bluray, movies and games

Free wifi is provided, together with Netflix (through the blue Ray player), UB Boom speaker and various movies. All local TV stations are accessible, local radio is difficult to get a clear reception – so we recommend using the UB Boom speaker and streaming it.

"This is a really cosy little place gives you that country feel. its currently being renovated so will get much better also. Its great for the MTB rider only a 2 or 3 minute ride from the derby trail head. The house has lock up shed coming off the back decking for bike storage. A fire pit area out the front. plenty of room to park the car. and a bbq on the back deck once its complete."

Why Avalon Blue @ Derby

During the renovations for Avalon Blue @ Derby, a stone with the engraving “Avalon 15.9.1947”.

The 15 September 1947 was the date of the Italian Armistice from WWII and the introduction of the instrument of surrender and entry into a treaty of peace.

This date was of apparent significance to previous owners of this lovely house, so we thought we should honour them and the sacrifice of all who passed in WWII.
